Cracking the Real Fitness Code

We have all seen them before, we call them them the "fitness unicorns" in our life. They go into the bbq's eating almost anything they want and they don't have an ounce of body fat on them. On the other hand if you even look at non healthy food you gain weight. How is it possible that these "fitness unicorns" can eat anything they want and still look amazing the next day? What drugs are they on? What type of workouts are they doing? How many workouts are they doing? How much does he or she lifts? Wonder what his or her parents look like?

Over the years I had the opportunity to be in the presence of some extremely fit people and I have realized that they all share one thing in common. It is not a magic protein blend shake, not the specific timing to get their carbohydrates in, or that they have amazing genetics.

What is the code Coach?

What these "fitness unicorns" have in common is that they get back into their healthy routine the very next day. They celebrate their hard work during the parties just like the rest of us but they quickly get back on that health wagon like nothing ever happened.

If you are like most, you probably decide to take tomorrow off or might as well be a week. Sometimes you just give up entirely and decide to take the entire year off. It is extremely challenging coming back specially if the night before consisted of consuming heavy foods and lots of alcoholic drinks.

Is it possible for me to become a fitness unicorn?

It is absolutely possible but it will be challenging. (Link to our Fitness & Friends Podcast for some inspirational stories of our members) It will also take time so be patient. Start off maybe getting back to the gym taking only the weekend off or maybe three days from now. The goal is to shorten that gap little by little until it until it becomes habit. As you build this habit, the results you've always wanted will soon follow.

Do I have to go workout hard the next day to be able to accomplish this?

Not at all, your first action can be as simple as taking a nice little walk in the morning. If you are feeling up to it maybe nice jog for about 20-30 minutes. As you gain confidence and become healthier start hitting the gym lightly the next day.

We absolutely value the 30lbs weight-loss stories, the ability to fit in your high school genes, and getting off medications but what we value most for all our clients is how fast they come back to the gym after a bad day. That is the difference between healthy for a moment or healthy for a life time.
